Teaching Manchester's young people the financial skills that schools don't cover
In 2018, two former finance professionals became frustrated. They watched graduates enter the workforce without basic money skills. They saw young adults fall into debt traps that could have been avoided with simple education.
So they created shard-logic: a place where children learn what money actually is, how it works, and how to make it work for them. Not through textbooks, but through games, simulations, and real conversations about spending, saving, and the future.
Eight years later, we've taught over 2,400 young people across Greater Manchester. Some are now at university, managing their student loans wisely. Others are in their first jobs, already contributing to pensions. The skills stick.
Finance can seem intimidating. We strip away jargon and explain concepts in language that young learners understand and remember.
Financial literacy should not be a privilege. We offer bursary places and partner with schools in underserved areas.
Every lesson ends with something students can do that week. We bridge the gap between theory and action.
Parents are co-educators. We equip families with tools to continue conversations about money at home.
Children don't learn through lectures. They learn through doing. Our curriculum is built around simulations, games, and real-world scenarios that make abstract concepts tangible.
In a typical session, students might run a pretend business, budget for a holiday, or debate whether a purchase is a want or a need. They compete, collaborate, and discover that managing money can actually be engaging.
We follow principles from behavioural economics and educational psychology. Lessons are designed to build habits, not just knowledge.
